Andy,

Actually, you will be far from the first - I can't begin to tell you how many folks seem to be missing screws. Take a look here for some reassurance.

Well I received an envelope today, but was surprised to find that there are no screws inside! Carmen, I suspect that you stapled an empty yellow envelope inadvertently. In any case, I would appreciate if you send replacement screws immediately.

Thanks.

Damn! How embarrassing!

Anyone who thinks the screw business is a piece of cake is wrong, let me tell you. :)

So, the manila envelope was empty? It didn't contain a smaller poly envelope with the screws?

Here's the deal: When I started shipping screws, I was simply placing them in a ~2-1/2 x ~3-1/2 manila envelope and stapling that to the packing slip. Worked okay except that the screws made a peculiar rattling sound when the envelope was shaken or distrubed and, in these days of mail handlers worrying about anthrax and such, I was concerned enough to seek out another solution.

So, I mention this to my wife and comment that I think small poly "ziploc" bags would work better but they are impossible to find (I read once that many stores don't like to cary them because drug dealers seem to be the major consumers ...). She says that she just saw them in a store she was in earlier that day so off I go. I put screws in a small poy bag, staple it to a packing slip and, voila, no more rattle.

Four days later I get a report of an envelope arriving with a couple of small punctures in the poly bag and missing screws. Obviously, when the envelope went through the mail sorter the screws must have been "squeezed" right out of the bag. I replaced those screws and a few more over the next couple of days (having first sent an email to recent customers alerting them to the possibile problem). One customer sent photos of a badly torn envelope and damaged poly bag (though there were still 3 screws in it) and it was obvious that I needed a new approach.

Aha! says I, I will put the poly bag (or bags) into one of the manila envelopes and then put the whole thing in the #10 business envelope with the packing list. Now I get the stiffness of the manila envelope without the rattle. Seems to be working.

So long as I remember to actually put the poly bag into the manila envelope... :)

Anyway, as I said in my emailed response, the replacements are already at the post office and, since you are not very far from me, I expect that you will have them tomorrow.
