Yes I am thinking of attempting a gear swap... I purchased a 373 gear set kit' to replace the highend 273 existing gear. I have been a machanic for many years but have never got the chance to change a rear gear out, I have a good knowledge about this issue but Im looking for some tips from people who have been there done that.... I know it can be a tricky job but I have about 4 rearends at my disposal with the same setups(273) so if I mess up i can go back:) I work with a guy who did this to his chevy pickup and he had no issues also the gear went great and hes really not that smart of a guy mechanic wise! so you know what Im thinking LOL... I wanna try this myself... basicaly I need some small guildlines Like: marking the old gear before removal to get an idea where new gear will ride ,and shimming Or can I use old crush sleeve or must I tork new 1 just some simple sugestions to prevent roaring or busting the gear.... I have a 400 small block pushing 350+ HP with 700R4 Trany infront of this... I WILL BE WELDING THE SPIDER GEARS even though many would suggest not to!! THX
