Replace Palm TX with iTouch?

Firstly about me. Retired; last job writing Access/Excel applications, with heavy VBA use. Cannot justify ?35 per month for iPhone but around ?200 for iTouch maybe.

If I need a long broadband session on the move I would need the greater functionality of my laptop. However I sometimes use a WiFi hotspot and my TX to browse BBC news, Google, or other websites; casual being the watchword.
Mobile phone on Pay-As-You-Go contract; been adequate.

So looking for the following:-

Soft keyboard

Contacts: Name, address, Phone, Mobile, email address

Calendar - Palm Date Book ideal. Add an appointment for three weeks time to meet Fred at 9:00 AM. Set alarm to ring at 7:00AM to be at the 9:00AM meeting. Use the Note function of the TX Calendar to take simple text notes at the meeting - Note stays attached to the appointment; the virtual keyboard of the TX fulfils my typing needs (Note I use Windows Notepad as my word processor of choice; it does most of my word processing needs; Word used for the very occasional letter). Calendar also used for Anniversaries; can also add Notes to anniversaries in TX

MP3 Player with 16GB+ storage; 32GB ITouch?

No memory card facility. So no taking the SD card from my cameras and viewing on my PDA. Maybe cameras can be connected to iTouch via USB but need to carry cable(s) with me.

Use TX to control hi-fi and model railway computers via Palm VNC and wifi ; think there is an iTouch VNC app?

A-Z London, Adobe reader apps available for iTouch.

I am sure that miscellaneous apps like Depth of Field calculations, crossword solver etc will be available.

Large number of text files can be read in any iTouch word processor?

Would need a way to transfer my Calendar and Contacts from TX to iTouch.

From the above can anyone please tell me whether the iTouch would be suitable? If anyone has gone down this route I would like to hear of their experiences.
