Well, the other day I had a thought, and I wanted to see people's responce to it, (long read)
---In the future, shoulf humans and Robots be allowed to marry?----
I know it sounds like an absolutly absurd question, but let me explain my train of thought....
Many, many years ago (hundreds) it was very scandalous for people to marry outside their religion. However, with time, this changed and people became more open minded. Now, I know a great deal of people who are married, yet have different faiths (or shared different faiths when they met and then one converted during/after marriage). Looking back on it now, I find it silly that this was even a pattern of thought!
Then we came to the issue of inter-racial marriages. That was very scandalous up to recent years, however, more and more people now are marrying outside their own race. Multicultural/multiracial children are born now everyday. I myself can trace my family roots to many Jewish/Catholic/Protestant Europeans, Muslim Arabs that entered spain, Many african peoples brought over in the slave trades, many Aboriginal (American Natives) tribes, ect. Many of these groups married others from other ethnicities, and have given me my current "nationless" race. Look at your father's last name, and your mothers, are they from the same region? Most likely not, some will be german in origin, others spanish, some french, and some british. Again, looking back on this now, it seems silly that anyone even thought that races could not (and should not) mix and marry,
Then we come to the latest issue, gay marriage. Still debated, slowly (much like the previous two groups) it is gaining acceptance in more places. Once again, looking back on it now (its legal here) it seems silly that it was such a big issue (although some will disagree, and you are free to do so, but I am merely stating my opinion).
Finally I came to my current thought, What if we encountered an alien race in the future, or if we built artificially intelligent (and sentient) robots. Would marriage between a human and these be accepted? Or would the same battle over "marriage rights" ensue, eventually leading to the acceptance/denial of the right?
I really wish to hear someone's opinion on this. Thanks for reading
