Remove Themes from E71-2 memory

I always install themes and programs to phone memory, and if my memory gets full or I get tired of a theme I been able to delete it through the App manager. After "upgrading" to v500, some themes seem to have been converted to the firmware. They aren't listed in the app and I can find no way to delete them. Anyone have an idea? Thanks

Am I not understanding the system here? Just looking for some help from what I thought are experience users. 67 people have read my post without one response. I learned alot from reading other peoples thoughts, and chimed in when I thought I had a useful thought.

Not sure what to tell you. I haven't updated my E71 to v500 and I don't install many themes, if any at all. There's always a reset to get rid of them but then you end up spending all your time reinstalling apps. Can they be deleted from the themes menu?

Does (or doesn't) Nokia PC Suite let you uninstall themes from the App Manager (on the PC)?

Let it finish loading the list of installed apps, IIRC the themese show up too.

If not, perhaps fire up a more advanced file browser (X-Plore or the like, unlocked or trial, set to show ALL files, including hidden/system). Be CAREFUL - you can nuke important files or make the phone crash by attempting to view/open/access 'active OS files.

Not sure WHERE you'd find the themes then (somewhere on your memory card if you initially instaleld them there, but in your case, with them apparently back on yuor system - perhaps on Z:)? Delete with care, after backing up - know that deleting the theme file may mess up or corrupt the themese list/database (although you mentioned the themes no longer even show up!)

I had this problem ALOT with the N95 8Gb, it's easy if you have a hacked phone, just delete the themes files from private and resource, that may be the only way without formatting if you have installed themes to the phone C memory unless there's another way I don't know about.

Update: Right, I've just been playing with the N95 and N79 you shouldn't need a hacked phone, get X-plore and go to C:\RESOURCE\skins, themes are in there but the folders have strange filenames so identifying the themes will be pretty tricky..

I've had that problem. I think (it's been a while, sorry) that all you need to do is reinstall the theme you want to delete and it will then be available in the app manager for uninstallation. When you start the (re)install, the phone will tell you it's already there, do you want to do it anyway, tell it yes. Hope that helps.

That IS a good solution, grandmoo, but not everyone retains the installation file for every theme :)

Not to mention, attempting to re-obtain it, and finding a new version, will make AppManager think it is a NEW theme!

But if OP has their original theme installations lying around, they should be golden with your method!

True, guess I'm a major pack-rat when it comes to installation files and such. I always keep them in the event of a hard reset, and I've done several of those. Now I've learned to uninstall the themes that aren't default and reinstall later if I decide I want them again. I keep the theme files and quite a few of the other installation files on my external card. But that knowledge was gained the hard way!

Thanks everyone. Just to let you know what I tried, PC Suite isn't giving me access, and themes can't be deleted from the theme menu. I'm going to try the reinstall the theme over the old method first, then go to X-plore if that doesn't work. I'll let you know.

Reinstalled themes. Never got a message asking whether I wanted to replace or not. Got a couple to uninstall though, getting free memory up to 10MB. Installed X-Plore, but can't find the theme files. Don't have a "Skins" folder under C:\Resource. I looked for an hour for anything similiar. I'd like to have more wiggle room, so may have to do a soft reset.

You may have to go into X-Plore's advanced settings (I quickly mentioned this so you may have missed it) to make it so you can see the hidden-by-default system files.

Note that I can get my phone to CRASH instantly if I touch some of those files. Be wary. Deleting the wrong ones can also be risky, which is why they're set hidden.

It may also be a good idea to set a startup password in X-Plore, just in case!
