"remove disks or other media. press any key to restart" error?

hi..i get the above message whenever i try to boot from my usb drive..it happens with XP, Linux (Ubuntu. OpenSUSE).. i copy-pasted all the setup files onto the usb drive but the same message appears whenever i boot from the usb..
any suggestions.?
