When I first got my Bell expressvu the installation tech had programmed my remote to control the TV and he also programmed the AUX button so that when I pressed the Aux button, it turned the TV Off/On even if I was on "Sat" on the remote. I had to buy a new remote because the other one is broken and I would like this AUX feature back. I called the place where I bought my satelite package, the sales guy had the same thing done to his remote but he does not know how it was done. I've googled, I've called tech support at sky dish, I've searched this forum and I even phoned a local satellite repair shop with no luck.
Anyone willing to share this top secret procedure!!
Thanks.
My remote is a new 3.1 IR echostar

How old was your old remote?

There are four buttons across the top of your remote. These light up.

SAT TV VCR AUX

You can use the AUX feature to turn your tv on and off and control the volume, but most people use the red power button marked "TV".

I'm a goof,
I reprogrammed the remote again, so now the TV power on button works like a charm. Weird thou, the first time I programmed the TV, the power TV button worked but put the remote in "TV" then I had to hit the "SAT" button to change the channel. It does not do that now.
Thanks for the quick reply guys, and this is a pretty informative site keep up the great work.

The remote has four modes, and two power buttons. When you put the remote into any mode, the unmarked power button is the alpha dog power button for that mode.

So, in TV mode, the unmarked power button will control the tv. In SAT mode, you can change channels, view the guide, etc..., and the unmarked power button controls the receiver. That's when the TV power button works to control the tv.

Every time you press a different mode button, it puts the receiver into that mode. Once you've addressed your remote for the TV, you should keep the remote in SAT mode to operate the receiver.

Glad it worked out. Remote problems are usually fairly simple once you get the hang of it.
