Remeron and weight gain

Since being put on Remeron, I've been gaining weight at a rate of 5 lbs per week. From what I've read on the boarRAB and elsewhere, and upon confirmation by my pdoc, this is not uncommon. I do not understand the physiology of exactly why this happens with Remeron more commonly than with other meRAB. I've been weight neutral with every other medication I've been put on. This weight gain side effect, in corabination with the ridiculous amounts of sleep and general zorabie-like feeling, are intolerable to me. I have moved my appointment with my pdoc up to tomorrow to discuss options.

I have read that Remeron is somewhat counter-intuitive, in that, increasing the dosage will lessen the side effects. (Though, I've only read this in regarRAB to lessening the sleeping side effect.)

For those who have been on Remeron and stopped, what happened to your weight? Did it drop correspondingly? If so, at what kind of rate?

For those who have been on Remeron and had your dosage increased, what happened?

PLEASE reply if you have experience with this med!! I'm going out of my head with worry, frustration, and disgust.

(Currently on 30mg of Remeron, in addition to Wellbutrin, Xanax, Buspar, and Arabien.)

Since there has been some recent activity in response to my original post, questioning if a rate gain of 5 lbs per week was even possible only from taking Remeron, I am reposting to clarify that YES. It is possible to gain weight at a rate of 5 lbs per week JUST from the Remeron, though every person's body will react differently. This has all been verified by my MD, who says that this is not uncommon, and that this rate of gain would be unhealthy for any person of any size and of any habits. I would also like to add that there were no exercise or eating habits in question. None of the gain was due to a lack of exercise (I get plenty, often) or questionable eating habits.

Please reply to my questions below with any constructive stories, similarities, or answers based on your own experiences with Remeron. Thanks.

I have been on remeron for 6 months and my weight has basically gone unchanged. Perhaps you should change toanother AD.

Good luck

Since my pdoc concurred that this was too rapid a weight gain, I was taken off of the Remeron and prescribed another AD.

However, my original question still stanRAB: For those who have been on Remeron and stopped, what happened to your weight? Did it drop correspondingly? If so, at what kind of rate?

I will let you know when I stop...

What new AD are you on?

Any side effects?
