Religiously speaking, is this the way debate normally works?

You argue your position, but your argument must be phrased as a question.

Next, a hundred people (give or take) have the opportunity to rebut your argument-question. Some may agree, but there may be an avalanche headed your way.

You can offer counter-arguments, if you like, but chances are no one will hear or respond to them.

Is what I describe an ideal forum for meaningful discussion?
 
I don't think YA was ever intended as a debate forum. However, R&S evolved (ironically) into something totally different.
 
No it isn't. As a matter of fact this forum is the worse place to have a meaningful discussion. In person, face to face, is the best method. People are much less likely to allow anything roll out of their heads when they can't back it up. But in this forum, we get all the idiots.
