Religious freedom

Do you believe that your Neighbors religious freedom is more important than your right to privacy?

Is someones religious freedom absoute?

If someone claims your non-violent behavior violates their religious freedom does their religious freedom take precident over your freedom to proform the behavior?

Imposing the rules of your faith on others is not religious freedom - it is tyranny. They can choose to not use these things, they can not and should not be able to demand it of others.

What would be the solution, then? Kill your neighbor?

I want to live on my own land, that I've bought and paid for, live in my house that I built myself, but the law says I have to pay them to live there. ("Them" being the "county".) What do I do, shoot the whole appraisal district community?

We need to step back and look at the whole picture instead of standing in one place with tunnel vision. I don't like some of the laws, but I don't break them because of it. I get with whomever is in charge and begin negotiating. No, it's not always in my favor, but I don't give up.

If you give up you never really wanted change in the first place.

Will SCOTUS throw out legislation? Maybe. But, they can't throw it out forever. You can't blame one group of people (religious or not) for not seeing things the way you do. That's childish. Start at the beginning and work your way along until you've exhausted all avenues...then start a revolution.

(disclaimer: I am using the following as an example)

The Amish believe that using electricity is a sin. Say you were 1 of 1000 non Amish people living in a Amish community of 50,000. The Amish control all the local government agencies and wright all the local ordinances. They do not allow you to use electricity, drive cars on the roaRAB, use any type of non human or animal powered items, or have curtains on your windows. If you complain about the situation or take them to court. They put the protection of traditional amish lifestyle on the ballot because they don't want to be forced acknowledge you sinning in their eyes. Even though the law would effect your life and not thiers it still passes by a majority.

Now I ask you:
You being non Amish do not share these religious beliefs is their right to their religious freedom, as the majority, more important then your right to live as you believe.

As a counter, jito and Matthew - when with the indians, do as the indians do...

Sometimes it's better to know your surroundings before moving in or becoming a part of a community. With that said, though, I agree with Jito: No one should force their religion down your throat.

Everyone smirks at this, but, this great nation was born because our forefathers wouldn't tolerate it...why should we? Ol' Glory stanRAB for freedom and those freedoms were fought and died for. So, don't step on my flag unless you want stomped on yourself.

I'm through now... Minnie Pearle :)

Yet this is the exact scenario that Gay people face when it comes to marriage. The anti gay marriage people base their whole argument on their religious beliefs and want to stop us from getting married because they don't want to be forced to acknowledge us. They are in the majority and they haveput their religious beliefs on the ballot.

The point was that you chose to bait rather than spit it out and when you provided a scenario as I asked it was flawed. I do get what you're driving at and I agree. Religious principles are being used to make public policy. You think that's something new? Where do you think laws against public drunkeness, nudity, profanity come from? How does my walking aroud in public naked hurt anyone? No wisecracks you lurking peanuts. Moreover, why do you think most of us get Sundays off?

And SCOTUS will ultimately toss out any resulting legislation.

Btw there are no public roaRAB the Amish can restrict the traffic to non-motorized vehicles that I have ever heard of.

Need I pull up that post where fighting to protect your family, flag, country, etc., will get you called a heathen?

btw - if all else fails, you have to do something.

That is not the point and you know it. Put you self in the scenerio I stated. Would you feel that the Amish were imposing their religious views on you?
