I have never owned a cell phone before and am looking for one that I can get for free/less than $50 with a contract. I need advice on what to buy and where to buy it.
My needs for a phone are in order:
1) Clarity of calls (headset, microphone, reception)
2) Durability (size and looks are far less important than if I can drop it)
3) Ease of use (easy to navigate menus, easy to push buttons, easy to read screen)
4) Battery life
Multimedia functions are all secondary. If the phone had a decent camera I would actually use that, but I would never use it to watch video, play games, or browse the internet. I want a phone that works well as a phone first and foremost. Now, if the phone worked well as an mp3 player I would probably use that as well, but would not want to pay extra for it and seems like something that would just drain the battery.
I have read up on phones on these forums and other web resources and ironically I am leaning toward the SE W810. I used one at the Cingular store and liked it. The screen is nice and the buttons were easy to dial with. Also the calls seemed to be clear, though a little soft. I?ve read that these have a good reputation for durability and clarity. The candy bar design did feel more substantial in my hand than a flip phone.
So, should I take the plunge with the W810 or would you recommend going with a different phone? I was looking at picking it up for free from Amazon with a plan, are there any catches there? It shows up in my cart as $0.01, so I don?t see what the problem could be.
Thanks in advance for the help.
