Rehabilitating an adopted shelter cat into the home?

Hi,

we have just adopted a cat from a shelter. He's 3 years old and has spent the last 18 months of his life in the shelter ( awwwww ) with a lot of other cats.

I do know he was teased by the children in the family he lived with as a kitten.

He is a bit temperamental, but has been given a lot of human attention by a volunteer.

My question is now that we have him in our home he seems very subdued, and wants to hide under furniture.

What should we do ???? Just leave him there for now, or try to coax him out with toys etc ????

let him get used to the suroundings of your home. if you try to hard hell get anoted when hes ready hell come out. and when he does dont try to snuggle or pet him for hell run back to hideing. after a few days hell come seeking ur affection hope i helped

Let him be. When he starts to feel secure his behavior will change. It can take weeks for this to happen.
