Regulator Rectifier, No Spark?

No, the bike would run until the battery was completely dead. The regulator/ rectifier is a voltage regulator that keeps the battery supplied with a steady 13.4 dc volts no matter what the stator is putting out, which is AC volts that varies with engine RPM. A bad regulator/ rectifier will result in a dead battery, and once the battery is competely dead you will not get a spark. But if the battery shows a charge, then the regulator/ rectifier is not the problem.

normally no.

a shot rectifier will keep the battery from getting up to full charge.

but, as long as the battery has enough charge to energize the ignition unit - you should have spark.

also, specify the bike. Some bikes have certain issues.

let's go from the cheap and easy to the elaborate and expensive.

bad plug wires (two cylinders - which leads to my next guess)

bad coil

but, before that, look for bad connections in and around the coil (normally) under the gas tank.

last but not least, a bad ecm - early 80's would be the first generation with electronic ignition.

also, get a book on the bike - as you will be using it from time to time.

Please, sir, there is no need for TWO threads discussing the same subject.
How about following the other one and let this one die ???

I tried to delete the other one but couldnt find a delete option. I figured the "Mechanics Corner" would be a better place to ask. But I guess no one, in any sub-catagory can help. I assumed not all "mechanics" would be looking in the suzuki thread....Im just looking for some help.

Okay, I am pretty confident that everything is fine but the ECM, is that the same as a CDI? Is there a way to test it to see if its working properly?

If there is no need for two threads, why would you move this one to the suzuki thread WHERE THERE ALREADY IS ONE. Whoever moved it must be incompetant, as they just defeated there own logic. Bravo Sir.

You cannot delete a post once it has replies.

There have been good responses with valuable information posted in BOTH of your threads. Nobody can give you just ONE magic answer.......without seeing the bike.

And I think you need to be a little more careful about pissing people off who are trying to help you. That often stops the help REAL quick.

There are people here who will help you all they can.........BUT you need to realize what the limitations ARE ........and there is no need to insult anybody.

I fine with that and im sorry, but as long as you realize that the threads are literally right next to each other now and even more obviosly a double post. But thanks for your help.
