i had a virus on my computer which got into my Ericsson W395 when i plugged it into my computer. later after eliminating the virus from the computer i was unable to completely remove it from my phone. i searched these forums for advice on my specific problem and found none, so since i have now solved the problem i wanted to write this thread to share my results with anyone else having a similar problem.

i realize this information is very basic and probably obvious to advanced users, but i am not very computer savvy. this info then is for other users like me, and i assume it will apply to cell phone models other than the Ericsson W395:

when i plug my Ericsson W395 into my computer using Windows XP, two new drives appear, one entitled "Phone," and the other entitled "phone card." the "phone card" one is the Sony memory stick that you insert into the phone yourself, and the other one entitled simply "phone" i guess is an internal memory drive of the cell phone, which in my case has a capacity of about 16MB.

the information i have to share, which i was unsure of before trying, is this: you can safely reformat both of these "drives" in XP by going to My Computer and right clicking on each one and choosing "format."

this procedure removed all trace of the virus which had infected my phone which i was unable to remove by any other means, and in no way affected the functioning of my phone, including my playlists and everything else. the only precautions i took were to backup some image and some music files on the memory stick, one of which i was using as a ringtone. after formatting these drives i replaced the music files and image files i had backed up and everything was fine.

i hope this info will help someone with a similar question.
