Reflux worse when upright.

Why does esophagus burn when I am upright, but not when I am laying down or through the night? Its also never really painful unil I have been awake for an hour or so and up and about. Isn't GERD supposed to be worse when Laying down?
 
Those with LPR typically only have reflux symptoms when upright. That isn't to say you aren't refluxing when you lay down, but that you may not be having symptoms.
 
My stomach produces more acid during the day. I am one of those people who does not experience heartburn at night. My stomach feels "calm" upon awakening and then starts to produce acid that I can feel about an hour after. I am one of those who experiences the acid upright. The heartburn feels better or goes away when I lay on my left side.
