Ok so adopted a guys 10 year old res about a month ago and he told me it was a female because it had laid 3 eggs over the years. It was kept alone while he owned it. So i got another turtle a bit smaller to put in with the 10 year old one. they seemed a little shy from each other at first but then the 10 year old res did the mating dance of flickering its nails to the new turtle. the 10 year old res has short nails and the rectum looks to be hidden by the bottom of the shell like a female. so if this turtle is a boy then how did it lay eggs? and if its a girl why did she do the mating dance to the new turtle? they get along great btw and seem to like each other and the 10 year old hasnt done this dance since the first night we introduced them to each other any ideas?
