Recording for longer than 12 sec with a Sanyo x1400?

I put a 2gb SD card in the camera and it's recording to the card, but it stops recording after 12 seconds even when the camera tells me it has over 9 minutes recording time on HD. The TV (over 20 minutes) and Web (about 1.5 hours) settings seem to work fine. Any idea on how to get the full 9 minutes of recording time on HD? I know it's recording to the SD card so that's not the issue.
 
It's a card speed problem.
The manual just glosses over it on page 40. "Depending on the card used, recording may stop even if there is remaining memory on the card" and "For video clip recording, it is recommended that a high speed card be used".

There's no mention of recommended Class (speed of card) in the manual, but Class 6 is usual for video.
