Recently frozen caliper on a 20 year old Mazda: any good techniques / tricks to free it?

I mean that the bushings that let it slide to a center position are frozen, not the piston. The brake pads are pretty equally worn, so I think it is not a long term problem. The car has not been used more than 4000 miles in the past 3 years, so it has been sitting a lot.

Of course, I would prefer not having to remove the brake line to take the caliper away from the car, and have to bleed the system.

thanks for any suggestions.

Can try to hammer them out if possible, or get vice grips on them and twist them back and forth, thus pulling them off. Worst case would be to apply heat, but not recommended due to the brake fluid in the caliper.

Whack the hell out of it with a 2# hammer.

Really! You won't damage the caliper (stay away from the fragile looking bits) and you'll knock the corrosion away. It will rain rust... a good thing.

Do I really have to mention not to grease or oil your brakes? No? Well you'd be surprised...
