I will preface with.... I hope this does not bore anyone, but this is how it all began. I am a 27 year old male. The following is not embelished in anyway. I am a very literal person and hope that this may help or comfort someone in a way that I saught comfort when I struggled with the following, and for whatever reason could not find enough information to keep my little head from spinning.
I went to the physician for a long over due visit about three months ago (January 28, 2010). I have not seen a doctor in well over a decade. My girlfriend suggested the visit and once my new health insurance started in I decided to follow through. Once at the doctors office my nerves kicked in and I sat patiently while I waited for my name to be called. Sure enough the nurse called out for me and as I walk through the office doors I was asked to step on the scale. The digits registerd and 208 pounds stared me in the face. I wasn't at all surprised seeing this as I weighed myself regularly at a local grocery store that convienently places a large scale at the exit door. As I went into "the smaller room" the blood pressure cuff was wrapped around my arm and a reading of 140 over 84 was thrown at me. I was in a panic. The doctor tells me if these numbers are not brought down in three to four months I will be put on medication. In that visit I also had my vitals taken, which I will list neatly at the end of my exerp.
On April 30, 2010 I returned to the same doctor. I walked through the same office doors and hopped on the same scale to find myself 28 pounds lighter. I felt an instant relief wash over me. As I sat in the same "smaller room" I waited for the nurse to come in and take my blood pressure once again. I explained to the nurse how nervous I was and she told me we could take the blood pressure as many times as we needed until I was comfortable. As she took the first blood pressure I felt good and my nerves were somewhat soothed. The reading revealed 116 over 80. I was exstatic.
*****************LIVER INFO*************
I just received the results of my vitals and everything checked out good with the exception of my liver enzymes, particularly AST and ALT. My AST was 660 and my ALT was 188. This blew my mind. I drink one glass of wine a month. I exercise regularly. I eat healthy as of the last three months. Without saying, this scared me. I researched night after night trying to find out what could have caused this elevation in numbers. Nowhere on the web could I find anything that offered any information about this type of elevation other than diseases such as hepatitis, fatty liver, alcoholism, etc. I just assumed that I had no chance of getting any of these diseases because of my life style not to mention no symptoms at all. Well, they told me to wait two weeks and retest. I could not wait. I scheduled the test for one week.
I retested and the following morning the nurse called me and told me the doctor reviewed my results and the levels were returned to normal. Also, my hepatitis tests came back negative.
The only thing I can think that may have affected the levels to this extent were two weeks prior to the blood test I drank shots of gin and two shots of bourbon. One week before the test I worked out both upper body and lower body for the first time in years. This workout had nearly crippling effects on me. Also, last but not least eight days before my blood test I had used a glucosteroid named fluocinocide for about 8 days in total.
If there is a physician that can dispute this, I would love to hear theories or facts that I may not know. I would also encourage questions about my diet. I am very excited about the change I have made in my life and I would be more that happy to encourage and help anyone out there who may need information on there struggles with weight loss. Again, I am not by any means a physician but I would be happy to help with suggestions. I would also like to hear any comments readers may have even if they do not necessarily align with my thoughts on the subject. I am open minded and love to share and learn.
