i witnessed a shooting almost a year ago. no one was actually shot, just saw someone chasing people and shooting at them. a cop came to my house and asked me to choose the person i saw out of a stack of pictures. since then i have received numerous requests to appear in court for this case. i have no desire to testify in court over this.
today i received a summons to appear in court in the mail. not certified, not hand delivered. the paper says if i dont show i could be charged with contempt and possibly face jail time. since this summons was sent in the mail, can i just claim i never received it? what could happen if i say i didnt get it?
