Receipts from Taco Bell, Drugstores, etc...?

Near the bottom of some stores' receipts, sometimes it says, "Tell us what you think (survey), Enter to win $10,000" etc?

I usually ignore those, but the cashier at a drugstore pointed it out to me and eagerly encouraged me to take the survey. So I started to do one of those surveys a few days ago, but stopped answering the questions when it started getting too personal, for example it was asking our children's ages, our family income, etc, and the final question required to enter the $10,000 sweepstakes they wanted our home address, telephone, and email. Sure, those are basic things, but... Before I provided that information I went ahead and read ALL of the fine print in the "privacy policy." Privacy, hah! It was quite the opposite!

It basically stated that all information we provide will be shared with other retailers for marketing purposes, and for any other purposes they desire to use it for. That gave me a bad vibe, so I backed out and opted not to be in the running for $10,000. What do you think? Am I being wise? Or am I being unduly paranoid?

Am I wise to safeguard my personal information, even if it means that I may be missing out on winning thousands of dollars?

On the other hand, what would my life be like if I responded to every survey that came my way: would my mailbox & email be flooded with junk mail? Or what's the worst that could happen?
