I'm sure there's at least a few people on Toon Zone that know of this show, and are possibly fans.

(to help jog your memory)

I personally love the show, I watched it since it first premired back on ABC in '94. I liked how Bob wasn't a "super muscle guy", but he was cool in that he was saving the day and was kinda a dork. Of course my love for computers just grew even more so when I found this show. I very fondly remember the Saturday mornings watching this. :)

I love it so much that I've started up what is called the 'ReBoot Revival'. The overall goal of this “Revival of ReBoot” is to find a television network that will fund Mainframe Entertainment (now called Rainmaker Entertainment due to merger with Rainmaker) in creating that long sought after ending to season 4, and possibly new episodes after that.

If this interests you, please visit the site at ReBootRevival.com. Yes everything you see about attempting to get the show back is real, there is a big effort by myself and my fellow fans to make this work!:D

Anyone wish to discuss it?

Btw, I wasn't sure if this should go in either the Cartoon Network Forums or the Toonami Forum, as it's no longer on CN/Toonami and it was broadcast on other TV Networks in different countries, so Mods please move to whichever forum you feel it belongs in.

Are the DVD rights to this series still hopelessly tangled up? Last time I checked, the home video rights to first two seasons, season 3, and season 4 were all owned by separate companies.

And if you really want a shock, just look how much it would cost you to get a ReBoot DVD NOW.

So if you're so devoted to reviving a show dead for years, I'm sure you're well aware that most of the original crew of the show has scattered to the winds, the original crew without whom any new episodes wouldn't be nearly as entertaining, the original crew who don't really have any chance of all returning to the same production.

Seriously. I tell you as one who has seen countless others before you try the same thing, with this show and countless others, only to fail, not for lack of effort, but simply for lack of realistic outcome. The show is gone. I loved it too (feel free to PM me if you want an audio version of the season 3 recap song I engineered), but to put forth effort into reviving it would be a waste of your time. Let it go peacefully.

Yes... the rights for the first two seasons are still in the hands of Universal, but I believe they expire in '09 (though I am unsure what happens to them after that point), ADV released season 3 a couple of years back, but I don't think that affects a re-release (the only issue with a re-release is RME having money to have a company do that) and Anchor Bay (now called
Starz Home Entertainment) released the season 4 DVD (which had a slight audio problem, but was corrected and you could send for a replacement) which is now out of print.

Oh yes, I've known about the insane prices of the Season 3 DVD's for quite some time. It's like that due to a perfect example of supply and demand. Those sellers bought up a lot of copies when the DVD's were reasonably priced when first out and now that they've been out of print for so long they know they can get that much for it because the fans (those that have that much to spend on such things anyway) are willing to pay an arm and a leg for their beloved show.

Yes I'm quite aware of that fact, however co-creator Gavin Blair expressed interest in continuing the show if it was made possible (this was in an interview for a ReBoot roadtrip, which the site is currently down, but I'll edit in a link once it's back up). I'm hoping to make it so he, Ian Pearson and the rest can finish up Season 4 if nothing else.

I've also heard that unofficially MFE (this was last year before the merger) would like very much to produce more of the show, but it was just a matter of getting the funding.

I am also aware of the countless online petitions for various shows including this one, however this is not an online petition, but an actual fan driven movement to get some TV Network to fund the show, by showing there is a very llarge audience and a potential new audience as well. If nothing else perhaps a comic book adaptation of what would have been the final episodes/movies of the fourth season could be made due to enough support.

However, I acknowledge that this is a monumental task and that it might not work out as I'd like. But if nothing else I'll know I tried and in doing so brought the series back into the minds of many who had forgotten about it (and possibly intrested some new fans).

It wouldn't be the same without Tony Jay's (R.I.P.) Megabyte. OF all the characters on the show, his was the sole unique villainous voice that stood out.

I am 100% positive that if YTV were able to pay to have the series completed, they would. After all, it's one of their most cherished productions ever. The fact that they haven't made this happen is a strong indicator that the creative/production disputes behind the series likely aren't going to be resolved.

I still say they should've just ended it with season 3.

...I still don't understand why people wouldn't want another season after season 3. Especially when season 4 was pretty good. =\ Though they resolved the Daemon thing WAY too quickly.

Only if you didn't buy 'em up to begin with. :D

Of note is the Art of ReBoot book, which is now in print and pretty cool. I hear success for this book could lead to a "season 5" comic series, which is probably the best we can really hope for in terms of wrapping up the series. The ending they had in mind for the third season 4 movie was kickass, and it's a huge bummer that MFE and Cartoon Network botched it.

What was the ending they had planned?

Not the "Megabyte ends up in the tor!! Everything as it was at the beginning of the series" thing...?

Gavin and company were still contractually bound from talking about the ending as far as I know. Is it really in that book?

They came out with them so early in the days of DVD that I didn't have a player yet. I thought they'd stick around...

Now they're in the possession of eBay sharks.
"Reboot on DVD! FOR ONLY NINETY-NINE, NINETY-NINE, NINETY-NINE!!"

When I first saw Reboot I hated it. I never understood why it got so much praise. It was just another stupid cartoon. Then season 3 came. Season 3 was on another level altogether. I still hate season 1 and 2 and probably wouldn't bother watching them if they aired again, but season 3 was awesome. I've never seen season 4 though.

It was brought up in another topic on the subject, but someone got an interview the creator about it for the aforementioned Reboot Roadtrip. However, the guy didn't give us a transcription of the interview, and instead gave us a few minor details. >_>

Yeah, one of the ReBoot Roadtrip guys is a good friend of mine (I'm in the video interviews somewhere), and they signed an NDA to get the interview. Some of the other things I've heard from him are really interesting, but most of it can't be put out publicly.

Early CG TV show gets "ReBoot"

Mon Jul 23, 2:52 AM ET

"ReBoot," one of the earliest computer-animated episodic TV series, will be redeveloped as a trilogy of feature-length films by Rainmaker Animation.

Originally produced in 1994, the series centered on life within a computer, where good forces fought invading viruses and videogames were viewed from within.

"ReBoot" was created by MainFrame Entertainment, which was acquired by and renamed Rainmaker in 2006. The show aired for several seasons on ABC, YTV and Cartoon Network.

"The idea is to relaunch the brand in a new way," said Rainmaker Animation executive vice president Paul Gertz, who will oversee the project.

To do this, Rainmaker has entered into a strategic alliance with Zeros 2 Heroes, a Web site set to launch Monday (July 23) to provide a social network for comic book fans.

Five undiscovered writers chosen by Rainmaker were selected to work with the animation studio's production teams to prepare a pitch for the new "ReBoot" story line. These will be posted on the Zeros 2 Heroes site Thursday (July 26), the opening day of San Diego Comic-Con International. Those who visit the site will be able to work with each production team to help refine the ideas for "ReBoot" and later vote and select a favorite pitch. The brainstorming environment is what the site calls "Think Ups."

A Web-based comic, based on the selected story, will be published this year. Production on the features will commence at that time.

"'ReBoot's' legions of fans have been incredibly loyal and continue to keep the property alive on dozens of fan sites," Gertz said. "We're very enthusiastic about how we're reconceiving this classic series by creating an innovative way for those fans -- who were kids when the series started -- to use new technology to help guide us."

Zeros 2 Heroes president Matt Toner sees the Internet as a democratizing medium. "It takes away gatekeepers," he said. "We want to connect the fans with the producers ... and let them determine what the next hits will be. When it comes to long-standing genre entertainment properties, the fans are the real experts."

hmm... I believe time will unravel the confusion that lies before me right now. Though this news is fantastic, I'm just wondering how Rainmaker will go about accruing the necessary talent to bring ReBoot to a successful end.

Rainmaker IS the talent that made ReBoot what it was in the first place - since that's what Mainframe is now.

Also, I think the PRs are suggesting that they're not bringing the series to a successful end, but instead reinventing the franchise and starting over with the basic structure the series introduced but in theatrical film form.

I liked this show alot & I miss it. Thanks for jogging my memory, it's much appreciated. My memory is very foggy on this show, so please forgive the shortness of this reply.

I'm looking at the Reboot revival site right now. Thank you for bringing back memories.

I actually liked "Daemon Rising" - the one loose thread from the otherwise-awesome season three, maybe more could've been done with it, but it was still fairly satisfactorily resolved.

Now the "My Two Bobs" episodes are another story altogether. No loose ends (bar that last-second cliffhanger from "Sacrifice"), didn't care for the plot too much, and of course the ending. Shouldn't have happened. But it did, and if there's any chance of getting a resolution, I'm behind it.

I LOVE Daemon Rising. As a movie it's amazing.

But as a season, it's way too short. :P

I like the last two episodes of My Two Bobs, and the first one. The first one is hilarious when you know who the second Bob is. And then the reveal in the third one, and the last one is also funny.
