Just for any clarification:
- The computer has been with us for under a year, my grandmother purchased it on HSN.
- No problems at all since we've had it.
- System recovery doesn't work. I believe the only two options on the HP Logo screen was Settings (which I didn't understand, so I didn't bother) and Boot menu (which led back to the black screen with the message.)
- We took out most of the things connected to the computer and placed it on the table in our dining room, hooking up our laptop to the ethernet cord that previously had the PC on it.
My computer is an HP TouchSmart IQ524 (or 526, I can't remember), and I've had it for a little under a year. It's worked great. On Thursday night, I turned it off as normal and went to bed, went to school, and my mother tells me it isn't working when I get home. The HP logo screen comes up and doesn't do anything more.
It goes to a black screen with the aforementioned message after a while. There's four things I can do on the HP logo screen, and only two work (in terms of pressing keys), but they don't actually do anything to solve the problem.
I have no idea on technical terms (I've read up on this a bit, but I don't 100% understand since it's coming from technology-based forums where people completely understand this), so if you could give some easy steps that I could understand more, it'd be great. Your help is appreciated.
Thanks.
I also neglected to mention that we did not make recovery disks (like suggested early on. <<) or back up any of our files.
I'm 15, to give you an idea, so you can go easy on me with the technical terms.
Just me: System recovery doesn't work. I tried it about a million times already. I've read some other problems that people have had with this and some are simply changing the order the computer reads it to boot up, could that be it, or is it exactly what you suggested?
