I have ridden both of them and would have to say I liked the Yamaha (VStar) better, it seemed to be a little more powerful and felt a little lighter and a little more comfortable to me but it's about $400 more than the Honda but don't get me wrong, I think it's worth it since it has a neat little V-twin with a cooler sound, longer stroke, and higher compression and it's a full 249cc's when the Rebel's in-line twin is'nt all that special, don't sound all that cool and only 234cc's. The Yamaha has a little bit higher top-speed also... As far as being more for Men or more for Women either one is just as good for Men as they are for Women...

Both are more designed for city use rather than long highway trips. Neither has a lot of power. They are small frame bikes designed for shorter riders. I suggest test riding both and see if either feels right for your usage and size.

The VStar is an impressive small cruiser and will run at freeway speeds. I've ridden my daughter's at 70 mph. She commutes 48 miles (round trip) on a 65 mph state highway.
These motorcycles are people bikes.
