Rear Wheel Cadillac in the Snow?

I have a rear wheel drive cadillac CTS. It slips alot in the snow, so I put like 7-8 bags of sand in the trunck. It helped because it does not slip and slide as much now, but the car looks like it is lower to the ground and the acceleration is not as good. Will this harm the car? Will the accleration go back to normal in the summer when i take the bags out?
