I will be attempting a rear brake job on my 93 VS800.
Do you have any helpful hints?
what about problems I should be on the lookout for?
Oh and a good source for a rear brake cable?? Will a 2003 work?

Anything else while the rear tire is off???

Thx,
Revin

While the wheel is off check the wheel bearings, and if they are bad get some ALL-Ball brand replacements, as they are sealed and you won't ever have to grease them.

The brake cable can be found at Ronayers.com or Bikebandit.com. Check the microfiche for part numbers, but I am 99% sure they interchange from 1992 to 2007.

Is your cable broken? Do you need rear shoes? Or do they just need to be adjusted? My 1996 VS800 went something like 85,000 miles on the original rear shoes, and the ones on my 1993 have plenty of life left after 60,000 miles.

Well the cable looks frayed a bit near the pedal. When I hit the rear brake...nothing! well the light comes on... and the lever back there sticks and I have to force it back to normal position. Better safe than sorry right?

messin with the raditor at this time, just flushing it out a bit.little paint, etc.
