Realplayer - Streaming Real Radio?

As far as Im concerned, the Realplayer in the S60V3 (and V2 possibly) can play .ram files.

So for now, the only internet radio ive managed to make work is Shoutcast radio from a java based application. Personally, I dont like shoutcast stations as they aren't "radio", its more like a streaming list of songs non stop. I like talk shows and such.

SOOOOOOOOO

Im a big fan of http://radio.real.com
I listen a lot to Virgin Radio and other stations at random.

those are .ram based files, which I managed to extract from my PC and put it on my E61, but when I open them with my E61, I get "cannot open file".

I KNOW!!!! that EDGE is fast enough for streaming 128kbps radio. Im playing Virgin Radio right now on my PC, while using my phone's GPRS connection, without any problem.

So anyone knows if there is a special trick or exceptions for the realplayer on symbian?

I think you're confusing shoutcast as content, rather than the technology - shoutcast as technology delivers any and all content that a user wishes to pipe into it (it's basically like a repeater - think radio tower repeaters).

There are tons of shoutcast-driven talk and "normal" radio stations out there, like:

http://www.shoutcast.com/directory/?sgenre=Talk

While some people may like it, most of us despise that RealPlayer, it takes way too much effort to find anything that works with it. I've found only one 3GP streaming station that actually works without any problems, the rest always crash for some reason.

Some would be happy to have my problem but it's this- while I can stream just about any .rm audio over 3g/edge - none of these same links work over wi-fi. Anyone know why?

where do you get your .rm stations?

as for shoutcast, ill give it another try, but too often i get connection error with the client... and i cant seem to find real commercial radios that I like

I'm having the same problem and I have read reports that it is supposed to work on our phones, in fact I read a tutorial on it. I used to think that T-mobile was blocking the RSTP port on the BB plan but I get the same error with Wi-Fi. I was going to do some more research to see what I'm doing wrong but hopefully someone here can help us.

EDIT: yes the guide posted by HDtravel is the one I read.

Alright some of the stations on Wi-Fi work when I forward ports 6970-32000 on my router but most of them still don't. None of them seem to work on T-mobile BB plan. So this is looking somewhat pointless unless we figure something else out.

Did you try changing the network settings (to WLAN) and bandwidth limits (increase the WLAN one) in the RealPlayer settings?

I've tried over a dozen .ram feeds and got none of them to work, even opening the bandwidth to max.

Let's just face it........Real Player for S60 is total garbage compared to WMP10 for PPC/WSP

I regularly listen to BBC World from:

rtsp://rmlivev8.bbc.net.uk/farm/*/ev7/live24/worldservice/liveinfent.ra

I don't think I've ever had a problem streaming any radio station with RealPlayer. Works fine over Wi-Fi or EDGE with Cingular.
