They say it never happened
They say it never happened
They said not to worry, its not the end
They said the changes we were seeing were normal
We were naïve with our excitement, we were young
Our elders founded in wisdom, heard it in the wind
I had to carry a mark, they didn’t
I had to stand in special lines they didn’t
They came for my mother, has anyone seen her?
They came for my father, my brother, my home is now empty
They took our clothes, they took our jewelry, they took our joy
They herded us like cattle, our dignity barely holding on by a thread of hope
We lost our freedom We lost our rights We lost our spirit
Some lost their faith, some lost their love, some believed that God had turned his back
Many died, many suffered, many were tortured
We can count the bodies but we can never count the tears
We can imagine the pain
We can never measure the cost
The lives that were cut down before they had a chance to live
Our homes lost, our lives crushed , oh the horrors
In the darkness
Man has such unspeakable ability to
Instilling fear, and conjure hate
But in the light
Man has such incredible gifts to create beauty and love
His ability to be gentle, and kind to nurture
The streets we played in laughed in and shed tears of joy in had taken a turn
So many thoughts running through our heads as we exit our trains
Spending time in place drove us insane
They say it never happened
They said not to worry, its not the end
They said the changes we were seeing were normal
We were naïve with our excitement, we were young
