Reaction to wheat, but not wheat with milk?

Has anyone else experienced something like this? I'm noticing that I sometimes get very sleepy and mentally foggy after I eat wheat products (pancakes, muffins, pasta, etc.), but not wheat-based cereal with milk. Cereal is actually the one thing I can safely eat right now without getting a tummy ache.

I'm wondering:
1. Is this an indicator of an underlying wheat issue (something I've dismissed thus far because I eat so much cereal without issue)?
2. Or could the milk/wheat protein corabination make it okay? (I know some people only have allergic reactions when they eat certain fooRAB together, but they're fine separately, so clearly fooRAB can interact.)
3. Or could it have to do with the carbs, which the milk protein moderates?

I'm curious to know if anyone else has found something similar. Thanks!!!

Pancakes, muffins, and most pastas are made with white flour. Many wheat-based cereals are made with whole wheat.

My best guess is that your body doesn't do well with a big boost of simple carbohydrates like you get from white flour. A whole-wheat cereal with milk is more balanced, some carbs, some protein, some fiber, which means you won't see a blood sugar spike and crash.

This is not allergic, by the way.

Thanks for your reply! That would make sense, except that it hasn't been white flour. True, the cereal is multigrain/whole wheat, but the rest has been too -- homemade multigrain pancakes, whole wheat/carrot/zucchini muffins, and whole wheat pasta. Any other ideas? Thanks again!!
