Re: 1996 Ford Thunderbird ~ Mechanical Problems?

I have 1996 Ford Thunderbird and I need advice. This car has been a strong running car, but now when I start it up & put into gear, it will not easily move forward when I step on the gas. I cannot determine if this is "transmission" problems. I had a problem smogging it and when I had a neighbor put a "code machine" on it, it referenced problems with the "left bank." Has anyone experienced similar problems with this type of car? If so, any suggestions? I do not want to put a lot of money into the car, yet troubleshooting may cause me to do that. Mechanics will fix this and that, and by the time I get the car out of the shop I could have a huge bill and have still have a transmission problem. It is a nice car and ran so well. I hate to give it away (which is what I will do if I do not fix it first). Any suggestions?

If it doesn't want to move in drive, put in neutral and give alot of gas and see if there's black smoke coming from tail pipe, might have transmission trouble, but if engine misses and smokes alot, its engine trouble, taking for granted you engine is V-8
