Rattling noise on Honda Civic, need help!! My sanity is at stake..?

Ok, I've been trying to figure out what the hell is causing this slight yet very noticeable without the radio or heater/air on rattling noise when I press my accelerator. It sounds like it's coming from under the hood, but I can't truly be sure without being able to isolate it properly. I took it into a very reliable auto repair place this morning, and their mechanic said he could somewhat hear it but had no IDEA what it was or where it was coming from.

I'm one of those type A perfectionist pains in the ass, and if I am going to keep this car for the next few years (it's at 88,000 or so miles now) I need to get rid of this noise.

Like I said it makes the noise when I'm accelerating at lower speeds (30 mph-60mph) and it only makes it as I'm pressing the accelerator slightly and not fully depressed. Almost like their is a reverberation effect going on with something under the hood.

I can't hear it with the radio slightly up or playing music, or if the air or heater is cranking, but that's not the point. It's a freaking Honda (2006) and I'd expect it to not creek and crack like a Ford, even at this higher mileage.

Please HELP!!! anyone!!!! :)

Possibly a heat shield that goes over your exhaust maybe rattling. Due to age, rust and extreme heat they sometimes come loose causing more of an annoyance than a safety issue. Also you may need a valve adjustment and/or it could be coming from behind the timing cover. Which ever the case, as long as it's making the noise when you bring it in to the shop, and it's not intermittent, they should be able to duplicate the noise by putting the car up on the rack. Have someone drive it at the same speed as when you hear the noise, diagnose it and fix whatever it is that's driving you nuts. If they can't then I would take your car somewhere else where they're capable. Good luck and hope this helps.
