Ransom (1996)

gibson has been crap since mad max. the only time he even appeared in films ive liked since then was for a ten minute spell in signs (which had nothing to do with him) and a bit in conspiracy theory.

other than that he's generally been a waste of oxygen.

I really like this film, perhaps for somewhat marginal reasons. I have seen it about 3 times on TV. Things I like are:

  • Views of New York and Central Park
  • Gibson's apartment with its Frank Lloyd Wright-esque architecture and stained glass
  • Gary Sinise's performance

I liked the film a lot - never seen the original though. I thought Mel Gibson did a pretty good job-especially as I don't really like him as an actor.

It was Glenn Ford in the Gibson role, in the original, wasn't it? And Ron Howard was the son, I think? Many years since I saw it, but it was good. I found the Gibson version okay at the time, but I wouldn't change channel to watch it again.
