Random, sharp, stinging eye pain, but eye looks normal. What may be wrong?

I've had this sharp pain in my eye for about five days. It may last a second or a minute and it happens mostly at night (a little in the morning) My eye has been very sensitive to light and cold air as well. Yesterday I didn't wear my contacts and had to sit on my couch and hold a wet washcloth over it while I did homework. It stings pretty badly. I woke up and put my contacts in with no problem and felt fine until about an hour ago. I put in a fresh pair of contacts and my eye doesn't appear to be scratched. It's not red or swollen either. It looks completely normal. Must be internal? Any idea what's wrong? I looked up some information...maybe corneal erosion? No idea. I'm in college and my family eye doctor is two hours. The school clinic doesn't do anything about eyes, so I'll find somewhere to go if this doesn't stop in the next day. In the meantime, if anyone has an idea of what might be wrong, let me know! Thanks!
