Random Channel Changing, Info screen, etc

I'll be watching tv when suddenly the channels will start to change or the guide comes on and start cycling through it. I am not touching the remote nor is anything touching and accidentally changing channels. I have shut it off and let it update but this does not solve the problem.

Is this happening to anyone else or has happened to anyone.

Happens all the time. This can be caused by a neighbour, who is using an RF remote on the same remote address as you. The fix is mentioned above. If that doesn't do it, see the following on IR interference, often caused by LCD TVs and other devices:

I am having a weird problem with my Bell 5900 receiver. Sometimes while watching TV the program information screen will pop up (like you pushed the info button on the remote). I will click it off and it will just keep popping up. I called Bell support 5 times and they had me do the following. Pull out and reinsert the smartcard. Unplug the reciever from the power for a few minutes and then plug it back in. Check the OCD settings on my TV. Check the closed captioning setting on my tv. (for some reason they said both need to be off). The also resyncronized my programming. Finally they replaced the receiver and the problem seemed to clear up for a day or two but now it is back. It doesn't happen all the time but it seems alot less frequent with the new receiver. If anyone could offer any help or suggestions that would be great. Thanks in advance.
 
I bet you've got an LCD TV. Here's the post discussing the IR interference problem. Proper optimized settings on the TV will likely help, and/or repositioning the STB so that the stray IR doesn't reach it.

As you are using a 5900 you could hide the receiver and still use the std remote as it would then function using the UHF.
 
My dad has a 5800 PVR, He is getting random program info popups which require hitting the cancel button every time to get rid of. They used to be quite random although tonight while I'm here they are happening on some channels every 10-15 seconds, its to the point where its unwatchable. Any suggestions on what could be causing this or how to fix it? Thanks !!
 
Sounds like someone close by is changing your display.

Try changing the Remote Address.
 
1. Go to the Info screen by pressing Menu twice (or press the info button on the receiver.)
2. Press and hold the Sat button until the light blinks.
3. Enter a number between 1 and 15. (1 is the default.)
4. Press the # button. The Sat light should blink 3 times.
5. Press the record button. The remote address on the info screen should update.

This works for all Dish/Bell remotes and is in the receiver manual under Using the Remote (a must read for new owners.)
 
If it happens all the time, every 10-15 seconds for hours, it is unlikely a neighbour is constantly changing channels. Read the information posted about IR interference.

.and it has been posted many times in this (and the PVR) forum. A search should turn up the information easily enough.
 
i agree with the fact that it sounds like the LCD is causing the issue. have had it happen plenty of times with my 3100. but i just got a 6131 to replace it and the issue doesn't affect that receiver.
