I can beat that. This is what we've always used, and you get them free

That's right - just a plain old paint can opener. Stick it under the lip
of the lid, apply a little downward pressure, and it breaks the vacuum
seal. At that point the (intact) lid unscrews without any effort.

That's the cheapo/crapo method, engineered on site as they go. A much
better and only slightly more expensive method is to use double walled
sheet metal plenums with insulating material filling the void, each
section bolted to the next through a formed flange with a rubber
gasket that minimizes vibration.... that's how the AC duct work was
made at my last house... measurements were taken and all sections
stock sizes and a few fabricated at their shop... took less than a day
for the install... which is why it cost only like 20% more, much less
on site labor and most of the sections were labor free factory stock
sizes. When I moved here the hillybillys used your fercocktah toys r
us duct taping method, took them most of a week and not nearly so nice
a job.

Hmmm. You can use a pointed opener to pry out a tiny bit of the
edge of the lid--just enough to break the seal. The lid is
totally usable afterwards.
