This happened on Saturday night... Basically we heard one of our dogs barking at something. We went outside and there was something under its doghouse. Wouldn't this be normal for the groundhog to be hiding? However the dog had it cornered so the Groundhog was snapping at him. Maybe biting his nose. After that my dad picked up the doghouse and the Groundhog ran out. Then the groundhog ended up under my trampoline with my dog still barking at it. After a few minutes of a stare down things finally heated up and it somehow grabbed onto my dog's ear. (It is a cocker spaniel so this wasn't hard) Finally my Lab stepped in and killed the thing. My family is kinda slack and didn't do anything about it. The next morning my Lab licked my arm around an open wound. Could my dog have been a carrier still? Would the virus have survived in its saliva if it was playing with the corpse or something? The Health Department and my doctor said it was nothing to worry about, but I still don't feel right about this.
