A van driver crashed into my car when it was parked outside my house and drove off. A neighbour witnessed it and reported it to the local garda. I have a quote from the main dealer for the damage, the garda has told me to get another one and that it is too dear for the damage. I don't think it is, i have already paid 75 euro for the quote, (which would be refunded on repair). How many quotes do I need to make to the individual who crashed into my car? Also,can i insist it is repaired by a garage of my choosing and am I entitled for him to pay for the use of a car if he decides to not go through his insurance.? At this stage i presume the garda knows him as its none of his business what my quote is and he hasn't even asked for the drivers name of the van or his insurance details or the fact that he left the scene of the accident.The van is one of a fleet owned by a business man and driven by a foreign driver. It is this man I am dealing with.
