Quirks and universes?

Is it true that while we think the biggest thing is the universe itself and the smallest thing is the quirk or the higgs whatever...we really dont know how small it gets, i mean a quirk could be a universe to a certain lifeform, and our universe could be an atom in another bigger universe that is an atom in a bigger universe that is an atom in a great ocean of silent flowing energy. I guess what im trying to say is what is outside the universe? Do we know its non existance for sure? How many particals are made up of other smaller particles? How small does it get?
