I have no history of acid reflux, so after 11 days of laryngitis I went to the doctors and he said I have what they call silent acid reflux, I have now had my laryngitis for 2 weeks, he also gave me blood tests to rule out any thyroid problems, I was put on meRAB and was wondering if anyone knew how the long the laryngitis might last, also( I did not mention this becuase I did not connect the 2) I have had 2 episdoes Sunday night, early tuesday morning of bile choking me awake, also happened 2 times in the previous months), I have no heartburn or indigestions, I just can't talk properly and wondered if I should conitue home remedies as well as take medication doctor gave, thanks for your time

Hi Wanda:

My understanding is that "silent reflux" is reflux that does not cause the obvious symptoms of heartburn. My reflux was also silent for a while in that I experienced bronchitis and "allergy-like" symptoms before I was diagnosed with reflux. I was even put in one of those inhalers for a while.

If the doctor prescribed a PPI, then it may well be worthwhile to take this medication for a while with the understanding that it is probably not a good idea to stay on it forever. You can get through the worst of your symptoms, then scale back on the medication and eventually and hopefully rely on your home remedies to keep the symptoms at bay.

it is now day 16 of my laryngitis, will the tecta( meRAB prescrivbed by doctor) eventually clear it up, the first thing when i start talking in the morning my voice is a little raspy but by the end of the day I can barely speak and it's hard for others to understand what I am saying...its getting very annoying.:(
