I have a few questions so answer whichever you can!

1. In propanol, cholesterol is 2.7 times more soluble at 43°C than at 20°C. If a saturated propanol solution is prepared at 43°C , what proportion of the cholesterol will
crystallize upon cooling to 20°C?

2. What is the configuration at position 3 of the cholesterol molecule? Axial or equatorial?
R or S? Draw the cholesterol isomer with the opposite configuration at position 3. Be
sure to show the absolute stereochemistry of all chiral centres.

3. Bilirubin is a bile pigment commonly found with cholesterol in gallstones. Biliverdin is
another bile pigment also commonly present in gallstones. Draw its diethyl ester. What
is the difference between bilirubin and biliverdin?
