well here i go
i dont know if this is acid reflux or what
i have been having sore throat for the past 2 and half months, at first it was when i first wake up and it would go away in some time, but now for the past 2 months i see that my throat is red, uvula is red, i have to clear my throat alot, i had bad taste in the mouth when it first started, and i have to burp more than ever now for some reason. and some times my ear hurts, i went to my dr and he thought it was post nasal drip and he gave me some nasal spray which didnt do nothing, then i went to an ent and he looked inside and said that it looked red inside and he did a throat swab and which came back negative and now he put me on some acid reflux med in the morning, i have been taking the acid reflux med for 5 days now and i dont feel much better at all.

does this sound anything like acid reflux?
is it too early to see any results from the med after 5 days?

The first time I was diagnosed with reflux three years ago, it was due to ENT symptoms. I was experiencing wheezing, clogged ears and a sore throat. The ENT doctor suspected GERD, but prescribed Singulair which actually helped improve the ENT symptoms a bit. I guess that medication helped dry all that stuff out. However, I then began to experience heartburn and, once that was diagnosed and I was put on Aciphex (a PPI) all the symptoms went away. By that I mean the sore throat, stuffy ears and wheezing. It takes longer than five days for the acid reflux meRAB to work, I believe.

I can suggest drinking aloe vera juice to soothe your throat, almond milk or purchasing DGL at your local healthfood store and chewing DGL tablets to help coat and soothe your throat. They have helped me tremendously. DGL is a form of licorice that does not have the undesirable side effect of raising your blood pressure.

The other counterintuitive remedy that has helped me is sipping two tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar diluted in water two to three times per day. I am not sure how it works and was somewhat apprehensive to try it at first, but it seems to be helping and has helped me cut down tremendously on the use of H2 blockers.

Hope you find relief and answers.

TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO RESPONDED
THANK YOU FOR UR HELP

MY SORE THROAT HAS GONE DOWN ALOT AND THE REDNESS HAS ALSO HAS GONE DOWN. IM ON Omeprazole 40MG ONCE A DAY IN THE MORNING AND IT SEEMS THAT ITS HELPING, IM JUST HOPING THIS IS ACID REFLUX AND NOTHING ELSE, BUT NOW I HAVE A SLIGHT SORE THROAT WHEN I WAKE UP IN THE MORNING AND AFTER A WHILE THE SORE THROAT GOES AWAY, I STILL FEEL LIKE THERE IS SOMETHING IN MY THROAT LIKE MUCUS AND I TRY TO GET RID OF IT BY CLEARING MY THROAT BUT IT DOESNT GO AWAY. ANY THOUGHTS. CAN LONG TIME OF STRESS CAUSE ACID REFLUX. AGAIN THANKS FOR EVERYONE HELP.

SounRAB like the Omeprazole has helped a bit and/or it finally kicked in for you. Keep us posted on how you are doing and hope things continue to head in the right direction.

Use this time to work on your diet and lifestyle to see if there are any triggers that make the irritation worse. I am a great believer in diet and lifestyle changes along with medication.

I had acid reflux so badly that the dr. put me on medication twice a day. I found that it did not work, so went on the internet and found Digestinol. It is a PURE aloe vera tablet and has done wonders for me. You may think it is expensive, at first, but read the testimonials. If you cannot afford those tablets, see if you can get pure aloe vera at a health store. I now can drink coffee in the morning with no trouble. Before taking the Digestinol, I couldn't go near it.

hello
well i have been on the meRAB for about 3 weeks and the sore throat has gone down a bit but not gone all the way, some days its there some days its not, im lost with this, i feel like theres something in my throat and i try to clear it but it just stays there, and my mouth is watery all the time. any help

It can take more than 5 days for the symptoms to settle down if there is a lot of irritation - I'd give it atleast 2 weeks before going back to the doc.

Dont give up if this doesnt work, you might be one of those who neeRAB a higher dose of med, say 2 tablets a day instead of one, or you might do better on a different med to the one you asre on now (although most PPI's are about as effective as each other, some people find one suits them better than another)

I have not experienced that symptom, but the watery mouth can be associated with reflux. Your mouth is trying to produce more saliva to coat the esophagus. It is a natural protective mechanism, albeit an uncomfortable one.

You may try chewing sugarless gum after meals and also sucking on DGL which you can buy at the healthfood store. As I wrote earlier, try to work on lifestyle changes during this time as more and more literature is now coming out indicating that long term PPI use is not recommended for most people. Therefore, you are getting a reprieve from your symptoms so you can learn about what causes them and take control.

I am glad to hear you are feeling better.
