Hi everyone

This is my 1st post.

I am 41 and all my life I have experienced anxiety, especially social anxiety & fear of blushing. Because of this I have become an alcoholic to cope (not drinking at the mo). Plus I am under Docs supervision.

I have been prescibed beta blockers to help. 10mg take 2 a day.

Q1. With beta blockers is it the case that if you took more that they would have a greater effect?

Q2. My anxiety is greater when I go out, especially socialising, should I take more just before the event & only take them for those occasions OR just take 2 a day everyday? As when I am at home my anxiety decreases, so is it worth taking them on those days.

Q3. Is there a dangerous level of mgs to take in one day?

I hope it is OK to ask these questions as I am new & not sure of all the rules.

Thanks in advance

Is it propanolol or atenolol? And yes, the more you take, the more profound the effect. Taking too much can cause bradycardia and or really bad hypotension so don't take more. I've done it lol, just ended up walking slouched over and falling asleep alot. Low blood pressure is the biggest risk. I take 120mg's of a beta blocker a day.

Hi Goingnuttzagain

Thanks for your reply. The doc has prescribed 10mg twice a day. With the dose you take, does it help any anxiety you might have? Or do you take it for other reasons?

What are the effects of low blood pressure?

How do beta blockers vary from valium? Do beta blockers actually work in reducing anxiety? Sorrry for all the questions.

Thankyou

J

I take 120mg of Propanolol LA 1x daily. because I have hypertension, and also to keep my heart rate low when I panic. It aides slightly with the anxiety, but it's primary purpose in my case is controlling blood pressure.

when you're blood pressure is low, you'll just feel weak, tired, and maybe light headed or maybe something else... everyone is different.

Beta blockers block the reception of Beta-Adrenaline... If you're anxiety is high, your brain can release this... causing the fight or flight response, so yes it will help keep you from going over the edge to panic and keep off some other physical symptoms. Valium is a benzodiazepine and effects the brain by slowing it down a little bit working on GABA receptors.

usually 10-20mg of immediate release is used for anxiety relief. it should help a little. not many side effects either, been on it for 5 years.
