Questions for those with stomach issues

Greetings,

Just a few questions. I have noticed for some time now that when I swallow food or drink of any kind, I get a sharp pain (not bad, but quite noticeable) just above my left rib cage, about halfway between the sternum and the left nipple, perhaps an inch above the ribline. About 2 months ago, I noticed a slight swelling just below my left rib line, in the same approximate location as the pain, but about 2 inches lower. I had an abdominal ultrasound done and they said everything looked "normal". I am left to wonder, is it possible to develope a swelling such as this with a hiatal hernia or some other GI issue? My Doc has refferrred me to a gastro, but I am uninsured, so I am considering the cost of the usual GI tests.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

RegarRAB, Brenden.
