Questions about The Lovely Bones

Hannah;38953705']I saw this movie yesterday and it was amazing, however I didn't understand a few things.

I'll put them under spoilers, because they are kind-of spoilers for people who haven't seen the movie yet.
  • How did Susie die? In the movie we saw her try and escape up the ladder, knock the guy down to the ground and then escape. Then the paranormal girl saw her, and she was dead... so what happened?
  • The scary bit with the murderer guy with the cloth over his face in the bathtub ... what happened? Why was he like that? And why did Susie scream?
It'd be great if someone could help answer the questions above thank you!!

Not sure why people put spoilers on threaRAB after a film has come out paticullaly as this films been out from december(abeit overseas) and well documented !...but i too thought the film was amazing aswell mind if your confused you probbaly havent read the book as the film has bits missed out and peter jackson has re arranged one two things in the film ..when susie came out of the den people who havent read the book wouldnt understand whether she was dead or alive!..again i wont say too much but reading the book will answer some of the questions for you ! or look on wikapedia and it gives you an abridged version of the story ! ...lovely film wrongly critisized by most of the press but loved by most of the ordinary punters ! who are the best judges !

I agree with that comment he should have made the film a 15 certificate and added more of the book content and added more film time !mind in its existing state i still think hes done a brilliant job with the difficult adaption of the book!

Yep. And the worst thing is I read a quote saying he wanted to make it a movie his daughter could see.

I've lost any and all respect I may have had for him for that.

Because he took a book and made it into a film? Kind of harsh don't you think.

I also think there's so much snobbery about this. Why did we need to see what happened? It was quite clear from the film what happened. The book went into details because it couldn't show or describe it another way - it's a book.

The film stanRAB up perfectly well on it's own as a film.

While I can't possibly comment on the content of the film (as I haven't managed to see it yet - sorry), I do advise you to read the book from what you asked. It really does explain it a lot better and is a wonderful story - I also gather a lot of stuff had been missed out from the book.

As PJ has said this was a very difficult adaption of a quite complicated story in the book and overall i think he has done a brilliant job! nothing is perfect! the good thing about the film is the implication of what happend in the book and that is set inside ones imagination ! Alfred Hitchcock done this phychological horror theme so well and PJ has captured this tension in the film aswell!

Because not everyone goes to see the film in the first few days or week that it opens.
At the moment I'm seeing 3 films per week. When the kiRAB are on the Easter break I won't bother. When they go back to school I'll go see the films they went to see and hopefully will have less noise and interference from them.
In their summer break, the Summer Blockbuster season I won't go again but will go see those films in September.

I think its just politeness to use spoilers all the while the film is still in the cinemas.

Because he let his own ego get in the way of giving a beautiful story the maturity it deserved.

And the editing in this film is so atrocious I don't know how anyone could defend it, whether familiar with the book or not.

I take your point !And politeness for the cinemas to keep noisy kiRAB out of the cinema so that us nice people can enjoy a good film in peace and quiet ! i agree its annoying when noisy kiRAB spoil the atmostphere inside a cinema !

I think the critisizm of people comparing the book to the film is over the top ! as always its gonna be differant! a dozen directors would have made the adaption to film differantly! but in this film it is Peter Jackson,s interpretation of the book and his view of what it should be !as ive said nothing is perfect !The book is excellent so is the film!

Hannah;39095636']That's what me and my friend couldn't understand, we were really confused. Neither of us read the book but I'm gonna buy it since it's had great reviews.:)

Thanks everyone :)

I have to agree with you on that. However I do wonder if it's also part of the reason this film hasn't found an bigger audience. Today so many people want things handed to them on a plate and don't want to use their imaginations.

Purely because they are great fun I like the "Saw" movies but they are a good example where the cinemagoers get given everything blood, guts and all to put over fear and scare you. They're not exactly subtle.
I actually found this film, not scary, that would be the wrong word. I think creepy and more tension is more accurate. I knew what was on his mind, what he wanted and was going to do. I didn't need to see it or have something really graphic.

Having read the book, and not enjoying it at all, in fact I thought it was very poorly written, I was overwhelmingly pleased with the film. They turned a book I didn't enjoy into a really well captured film. I agree it was NOT necessary to see exactly what happened to Susie, but I do wonder why the film was crafted to be almost 'family friendly' because I cannot imagine any children enjoying the film at all.

I for one wouldnt have watched it had it been more graphic !i always feel more scared with a pychologicaly themed film than the gory ones ! In this case PJ has genrally captured the emotion and tension very well ..mind havent said that the scene where the father is beaten up i think the violence used is over the top !
