I have been on a strict GERD diet for five days. I eat 1100-1400 calories a day on average. My clothes already fit a little looser.

Has anybody on here:
1) lost weight on the GERD diet?
2) been on the GERD diet in the long term and felt 10x better as a result?
3) find that you have to semi-customize your GERD diet? (example: I cannot consume iceberg lettuce, broccoli, ground beef, or Kool-Aid because they are heartburn triggers for me, yet I can have full-fat cheese and chocolate - in small amounts - and they're not heartburn triggers for me personally)

Regarding #2, I'm lucky in that my stomach problems are minor enough I don't have to. There are a few fooRAB I avoid all the time, otherwise I mostly eat what I want. When I have a bad episode, I follow a stricter diet for a couple weeks, then, when it settles down, I can expand my food horizons again.

Regarding #3, definitely. I also find dairy with fat is OK, but fried fooRAB are bad. Everyone's triggers are a little different. Also, there are a few moderatly triggery fooRAB that I really like, and I find that I can eat them occasionally, so long as it is small quantities with plenty of "cushioning" from non-triggery fooRAB.

Hi Keecas:

A 1400 calories a day diet is quite low and I suspect you will lose weight on it. Make sure you are eating the right nutrients and it is balanced.

Dairy is a trigger for me. Fats and fried food do not appear to be. I eat small portions. I can eat lettuce and broccoli. I cannot eat chocolate or drink coffee. I am slowly finding my triggers.

What has worked for me is not so much to cut down calories but to cut down on carbs. Not exactly sure why that is. I think part of the key as you wrote is "in small amounts."
