My husband and I are planning a trip to section hike the Appalachian trail soon. We will probably do something in the southern part since we are from south MS. I would like to start from the beginning at Springer Mtn. This is where a few of my questions come in... Where is a good stopping point? We will only be able to take off a week of work. Take 2 days of that for driving (one day there and one day back home) so that gives us 4 to 5 days of hiking. I know you can average 12 miles per day depending. So, at what point would be a good place to stop and get back to civilization? Also, when we reach that point how do we get back to our car at springer mtn? I would love to hike the entire state of GA to the NC border but I doubt we will have enough time. And from the beginning how far is it to the first store? Thanks for any responses...
