Questions About Painting a Bicycle...?

My friend wants me to paint her bike for her birthday. I do not want to use spray paint, and was wondering if acrylic craft paint is appropriate? If not, what type of paint should i use? Also, what is the best clear coat spray? What grit sandpaper should I use? Do I need to put a primer on? Will a latex regular house paint primer work? Etc.??

Sorry for all the questions, but I want to do this the right way.

Also if you have any pictures of cool custom paint jobs, that would be nice.
