Questions about mazda 3 Mags and tires?

Hey, I would like to know what kind of tires I can put on my mazda 3 2006.

I found some pretty nice mags with tires on them, but i don't know what size I can put on my car and what those numbers mean ( 225/45R17)

Could someone explain me those numbers and tell me the limits of what I can put on my mazda ?
