I will be going to Camp Shelby next month and I was wondering has anyone ever been there and what are some good places(e.i bars, clubs) to go to in Hattiesburg and are the people friendly or not....I have never lived in Mississippi and I really don't know what to expect.
..i still want to know what there is to do in Hburg? do they any have any bars there? and since its a college town..where do the college girls be at??? ha ha!

Mississippi is cool, I lived there forever then relocated after Katrina, but everyone down there is polite, it's like a different country. I lived in Gulfport, I went to Hattiesburg like once so I can't help you there. And the food is the S***!

If you are from a large city, it may take some getting used to Hattiesburg being a bit small. It is a college town though and has a lot of sports events. Biloxi and Gulfport are only 60 miles away and have the beach, Ship Island, casinos and a lot of entertainment. Don't waste your money at the casinos gambling but there is great entertainment and food.

The winters are a lot like spring most places and the people are friendly. It probably won't be so bad. I am biased though. I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

To anyone that says the food is bad. You must not like spicy cajun food, seafood and barbeque. The Shed Barbeque and Blues Restaurant just won a national competition for their pulled pork barbeque.

Military people are well respected in South Mississippi. There are quite a few places that give military discounts.

I can't give you much information about where to go in Hattiesburg but the University of Southern Mississippi has an enrollment of over 16,000. Female students should be everywhere.
