Questions about business owners?

Romans 10:17

If a person owns a business, and he has 42 employees, all of the employees pay 1/2 Social Security, etc., for taxes. Would the employer pay 1/2 once (for his personal wages), or 1/2 for each of his 42 employees?

What advantages exist when a business owner hires employees instead of hiring subcontractors? It seems that, since subcontractors have to pay full taxes, don't get benefits, etc., it doesn't make sense to make a person an actual employee.

What's the minimum amount of work an employee must do so that the employer is NOT considered self-employed (and therefore, has to pay double taxes)?
